Versatile high-carbon RDM mast
Loftsails Vision IV C75 RDM is designed for windsurfers who want a noticeable improvement in sail response without moving to a full-carbon competition mast. Its 75% carbon content provides quick recovery after flexing and helps reduce rig weight while maintaining the durability required for frequent sailing.
The mast is suitable for recreational freeride, competitive sessions with other riders and regular wave sailing. It offers a practical balance of response, durability and price for intermediate and advanced windsurfers.
T700 and T800 carbon fibres
The mast is made using a combination of T700 and T800 carbon fibres. This material blend provides the required balance of elasticity, low weight and resistance to the loads generated during sailing.
The high carbon content improves mast reflex, allowing the sail to recover its intended profile more quickly after a gust, landing or impact with chop. This results in a more direct rig response, stable power delivery and easier acceleration.
Durable pre-preg construction
Loftsails Vision IV C75 RDM is manufactured using pre-preg materials. The fibres are pre-impregnated with a controlled amount of resin, which produces a consistent laminate and reduces variation between individual masts.
The construction is designed to withstand the demands of wave sailing and intensive use. It also provides suitable resistance to localised loads and friction generated by the sail during operation.
Constant Curve bend profile
The mast features a Constant Curve bend, with 64% base flex and 76% top flex. This bend profile is matched to Loftsails sails and allows the sail to maintain its intended draft depth and leech behaviour.
A correctly matched mast also helps provide the full tuning range of the sail. The profile remains stable, while the upper section can respond effectively to changes in wind strength.
Controlled mast specifications
Precise manufacturing methods reduce differences in bend characteristics between individual masts. Every mast is checked and controlled to ensure that it meets the intended flex and stiffness specifications.
This is particularly important in performance sails, where even small variations in mast behaviour may affect draft position, stability and usable wind range.
RDM diameter
The reduced diameter makes the mast easier to grip during manoeuvres and waterstarts. The RDM construction also offers a favourable wall thickness-to-diameter ratio, improving resistance to localised impacts.
An RDM mast provides a slightly softer and more controlled rig feel than a comparable SDM model. This is particularly useful in wave sailing, choppy water and variable wind.
Who is it for?
Loftsails Vision IV C75 RDM is designed for intermediate and advanced windsurfers sailing freeride, bump & jump and wave. It is a suitable choice for riders who want faster reflex and lower rig weight than a C50 mast, while retaining more durability and a lower price than a C100 model.
Before purchasing, check the mast length, diameter, IMCS stiffness and bend curve recommended by the sail manufacturer.
Features
Loftsails mast manufacturing standards
Loftsails masts are manufactured using only the highest-grade materials and pre-preg (fiber cloth that’s pre-impregnated with resin) construction methods that are highly consistent for quality control and superior to traditional ‘wet’ layup processes that do no guarantee even resin transfer, strength and performance. Loftsails use superior T800 & T700 carbon fiber in their masts. T800 is the optimum fiber when under strain and elongation and compression and also delivers superior response action that enhances sails so well. T700 has even more superior resin absorption and consistency and in fact Loftsails leading Team Edition masts use both fabrics for the ultimate blend of quality and performance.
Accurate materials specifaction
The CAD plotter accurately cuts all composite raw materials used in the process. This is vital for consistency of weight control and performance.
Taking shape mandrels
The right mandrel for each model is then chosen so that the required taper, thickness, bend curve and many other characteristics specified for each model can be produced.
Layup and dressing
For confidentiality reasons we cannot show Loftsails’ precise, classified techniques used in the next stages. These steps involve rolling the plotted composite materials onto the mandrel with a closely guarded process on how the unique inner and compression layups are formed and secretive method for how the ferrules are integrated. The stickers are applied at this stage though!
Taping
External finishing such as protective basalt layers and durable finishing tape are applied to protect from camber wear, heat and impact.
Curing
The mast is cooked in an autoclave. It’s vital to closely monitor and precisely control the curation process at various stages for the most consistent results.
QC
Quality Control checks are made such as bend curve measurement, strength under load and impact. Final finishing inspections are then completed before packaging. Next stop – the beach!
