Who is the Loftsails Raceboardblade Lightwind V8 for?
Loftsails Raceboardblade Lightwind V8 is a racing sail designed for Raceboard sailors competing in light and medium wind conditions. It is aimed at riders who need early power, efficient pumping and a stable profile throughout the race.
Earlier power generation
The deeper profile and fuller upper section create drive sooner in marginal winds. This helps accelerate the board, bring it onto the rail earlier and maintain speed through weaker or inconsistent gusts.
Easier pumping and reduced swing weight
The higher aspect ratio is achieved through a longer mast and shorter boom. These proportions reduce swing weight, making the sail easier to pump and quicker to move from side to side during transitions.
Balanced performance on both tacks
A softer upper batten supports the response of the sail’s top section in light winds, while the four-cam layout helps keep the profile stable as the wind increases. Side-alternating batten pockets reduce construction asymmetry, giving the sail a more consistent feel on both tacks.
Adjustment during racing
The exposed tack eyelet allows the use of an adjustable downhaul system. This lets you change downhaul tension while sailing and adapt the sail’s response to current conditions on the racecourse.
Carbon version in 9.5 m²
The 9.5 m² size is also available in a Carbon construction. Its increased stretch resistance helps the sail retain a stable profile through the upper end of its wind range.
Features

Blade Mast Pocket
Downhaul tension is distributed evenly between the mast panel and mast pocket, creating a firm leading edge and supporting smooth, consistent cam rotation

Dacron/SU250PE Mast Sleeve
Lightweight Dacron in the upper mast sleeve reduces weight at the top of the rig, while durable SU250PE reinforces the lower section where downhaul loads and wear are highest

High-Visibility Panels
4 mil X-Ply in the main window and clear panels positioned along the mast pocket provide a clear forward view during starts and while racing around the course

Carbon Batten System
Lightweight carbon tubes stabilise the profile in stronger wind. The combination of longer rod sections and rear-shifted carbon tube segments creates a shallower entry, reduces drag and supports faster cam rotation

TekCam 3
Four TekCam 3 cambers are 35% lighter than the previous generation. They improve rotation, support higher batten angles and stabilise the upper profile without adding unnecessary weight

Reinforced Panels
Bi-axial X-Ply reinforcements protect the foot, head and clew from the loads created by racing trim. They also protect the area around the longest batten during rolling, transport and storage

Side-Alternating X-Ply Batten Pockets
Batten pockets alternate from one side of the sail to the other, reducing asymmetry caused by seams and helping maintain a balanced profile on both tacks

Exposed Tack
The exposed tack eyelet allows the use of an adjustable downhaul system for precise tuning while racing

Track Strap with Eyelet
Track strap tension remains independent from the downhaul, allowing precise control of the tack area without changing the sail’s main trim

Metallic Cam Interface
Reinforced contact surfaces reduce wear around the cambers and help maintain smooth cam function over extended use
