Freeride with freerace performance
Oxygen has been refined over many years as one of the key freeride sails in the Loftsails range.
Its character is built around easy planing, smooth acceleration and stable handling over long reaches. Once up to speed, the profile remains composed and predictable, reducing the need for constant sail adjustment.
Stable power without cambers
Oxygen delivers power in a smooth and progressive way.
The pull stays balanced and close to the rider, helping maintain a comfortable stance as speed builds.
The no-cam layout keeps rigging and transitions simple, while the overall design retains the sportier character expected from fast freeride and no-cam freerace sailing.
Tubed Battens
All sizes use multiple Tubed Battens, a feature more commonly associated with performance-oriented sails.
They help stabilize the profile under higher loads and keep the drive focused forward, allowing Oxygen to remain efficient and controlled as wind strength increases.
Wide tuning range
Oxygen is designed to cover a broad usable wind range.
Dual clew eyelets allow clear changes in sail character. The upper eyelet adds profile depth and drive in lighter wind, while the lower eyelet flattens the profile and increases leech twist for improved control when the sail is more heavily powered.
Downhaul and outhaul adjustment provide further control over profile depth and overall sail balance.
Cross Batten
The Cross Batten links the boom area directly to the batten framework.
Working together with the inset clew and leech geometry, it helps maintain stable drive and control lower-leech twist as speed increases.
Refined balance
The current generation uses a higher aspect ratio and shorter boom lengths, reducing swing weight and improving handling, particularly in larger sizes.
Revised luff curves and re-oriented batten angles lower the center of effort and help the sail maintain a more neutral balance when powered.
A slightly lower foot profile further supports control and aerodynamic efficiency at speed.
Two construction options
Oxygen is available in two main construction layouts.
White Bi-Ply and X-Ply Construction uses 5 mil biaxial luff and foot panels, a 4 mil biaxial X-Ply window and 4 mil Bi-Ply body panels. This layout combines low weight with durability and shape stability.
HD Blue / LTD Green X-Ply Construction uses a full X-Ply layout with 5 mil biaxial luff and foot panels, 4 mil biaxial window panels, 3.5 mil biaxial leech panels and 2 mil upper body panels.
The HD Blue and LTD Green versions are focused on added resilience for frequent and demanding use.
Double Dacron Top Panels
The upper panels of Oxygen use two layers of Dacron.
This improves durability in the head area and also helps the sail roll more evenly.
Kevlar-Reinforced Clew Panel
A Kevlar-reinforced panel extends from the clew to the batten above the boom.
It strengthens one of the most heavily loaded areas of the sail and protects the region around the longest batten during rolling, transport and storage.
Reduced-weight functional construction
Reducing unnecessary marker cloth and scrim lowers overall weight and improves the sail’s center of mass.
This contributes to a lighter feel in the hands and easier handling without adding material that does not serve a clear structural purpose.
Trim Diamond and rigging details
Trim Diamond provides a visual reference for checking leech release and repeating precise trim settings.
Full-Opening Mast Pad gives easy access to the mast extension, downhaul system and integrated batten tensioner.
FAQ – Loftsails Oxygen 2026/27
What's new in the Oxygen 2026/27?
The Oxygen receives a series of structural and shaping updates designed to improve balance, handling and durability.
Higher aspect ratios and shorter boom lengths have been introduced across the range, reducing swing weight and improving maneuverability, particularly in larger sizes. Revised luff curves and re-oriented batten angles lower the center of effort and improve overall balance when sailing fully powered.
A slightly lower foot profile delivers cleaner forward drive and better control as speed increases.
Construction updates include new 5 mil foot panels and a Kevlar-reinforced clew panel extending to the batten above the boom, improving durability in high-load areas.
The panel layout and graphics follow the functional minimalism approach, reducing unnecessary scrim and marker cloth to minimize overall weight.
A new LTD Green colorway also joins the range, featuring the same construction as the HD Blue version.
What conditions is the Oxygen designed for?
The Oxygen is designed for freeride sailing on flat water and in moderate chop, where early planing, speed and comfortable handling are the main priorities.
It performs best in light to medium winds, offering early planing and smooth acceleration without requiring aggressive pumping or constant trim adjustments.
As the wind increases, Oxygen remains stable and predictable, allowing riders to stay powered and sail comfortably.
It is an excellent choice for windsurfers looking for an easy-to-handle sail for recreational freeride and fast sailing, combining high-speed potential, effortless planing and smooth gybes.
What skill level is recommended for the Oxygen?
The Oxygen suits a wide range of windsurfers, from progressing intermediate riders to experienced freeriders.
Its no-cam construction makes rigging straightforward and provides intuitive handling with predictable power delivery. This makes it particularly suitable for sailors developing their stance and building confidence on the water.
At the same time, the sail offers enough stability and drive for experienced riders to push higher speeds and sail fully powered without the additional complexity of cambered designs.
What mast is recommended for the Oxygen 4.6 White 2026/27?
For the Oxygen 4.6 White 2026/27, the manufacturer recommends the Loftsails Vision RDM 370 mast.
Alternatively, the Loftsails Spark RDM 370 can also be used.
What type of board works best with the Oxygen?
The Oxygen pairs naturally with freeride and freerace boards.
Its balanced power delivery and broad wind range make it an excellent match for boards designed for early planing and efficient speed across flat water and light chop.
The stable center of effort supports a comfortable stance and consistent acceleration, particularly on medium- to wide-outline freeride boards.
For bump & jump or wave-oriented boards, the Windscape or Purelip are more suitable choices, as they are designed for more dynamic sailing and rougher water conditions.
What's the difference between Oxygen and Switchblade?
Both sails are designed for speed-oriented freeride sailing, but they focus on different performance priorities.
Oxygen is a no-cam freeride sail focused on simplicity, early planing and smooth, efficient speed. It delivers solid low-end power, straightforward rigging and forgiving handling across a wide range of everyday sailing conditions.
Switchblade is a more performance-oriented cambered freerace design. It performs best when sailed fully powered, offering stronger forward drive, a more locked-in profile and greater stability at higher speeds. It also requires more precise tuning and a committed sailing style.
In short, Oxygen prioritizes accessibility and efficiency, while Switchblade focuses on powered performance and sustained high-speed sailing.
