Race-focused performance for competitive fin slalom
The Falcon_Fin D/LAB is Duotone's high-end fin slalom racing board, developed for advanced and expert windsurfers competing at PWA, IFCA and club level. Its design focuses on explosive acceleration, sustained top speed, efficient upwind performance and precise control through high-speed jibes.
Built around proven racing shapes, the board rewards riders who can actively control their stance, load the fin and maintain efficient trim as conditions change. Compared to more accessible freerace boards, the Falcon_Fin D/LAB prioritises racing performance over forgiving handling, making it particularly suitable for experienced slalom riders looking to get the most out of their equipment.
Full Custom D/LAB – lightweight construction with exceptional stiffness
Every Falcon_Fin D/LAB starts with an EPS core precisely milled using CNC technology rather than shaped in a conventional mould. This manufacturing process enables accurate reproduction of the intended geometry while reducing production tolerances and unnecessary weight.
Duotone's Single Process Technology involves vacuum-bagging the upper and lower PVC sandwich layers onto the core in separate stages. Instead of using a uniform PVC thickness throughout the board, the construction is adapted to the loads experienced in different areas. This approach optimises weight distribution while maintaining reinforcement where it is most needed.
The layup consists of more than 60 individual components, combining high-strength and high-modulus carbon fibres, Innegra, S-glass and Duotone SENTEX® resin with silicon nanospheres. Carbon provides structural stiffness and direct power transfer, while Innegra contributes tensile strength and resistance to dents. The specialised S-glass and resin system further optimise the balance between weight, stiffness and durability.
According to Duotone, the D/LAB construction can be up to 500 g lighter than the SLS version and up to 1 kg lighter than a conventional production construction, depending on the boards being compared.
Hull geometry – balancing lift, control and speed
The Falcon_Fin D/LAB features a size-specific outline, with the length-to-width ratio adjusted to suit different racing conditions. Smaller sizes have a more elongated shape to reduce wetted surface area and support control at high speeds. Larger sizes provide more planing surface, helping generate lift and acceleration in lighter winds.
The Flying V-Shape bottom incorporates increased V around the forward mast track area and towards the tail. This geometry is designed to support controlled handling in choppy conditions while allowing riders to adjust their jibing radius when approaching a racing mark.
At the tail, the distinctive 2 Step Cut-Outs reduce the wetted surface area when planing. They also make it possible to combine a wider tail outline with an outboard rear footstrap position, giving the rider additional leverage over the fin. This becomes particularly important when carrying a powerful race sail, where efficient fin loading helps maintain lift, control and speed.
Deck shape, rails and racing stance
The relatively flat deck promotes a stable racing stance and precise control through high-speed manoeuvres. A recessed mast track area lowers the rig connection point, helping improve control and reducing the gap between the sail foot and deck for better aerodynamic efficiency.
The rail profile is also tailored to fin slalom performance. Raising the rail apex ahead of the front footstraps is intended to create smoother handling and make it easier to maintain consistent trim in rougher water. Harder rails beneath the rider's feet provide a more direct platform for applying pressure to the fin.
Together, these design elements help experienced riders maintain an efficient stance and make fine adjustments without disrupting the board's speed.
AI_BOARD_3D and Synced Curves Concept – precision in every curve
Duotone develops its board shapes using the proprietary AI_BOARD_3D design system, which enables precise control over complex three-dimensional geometries.
One of its key applications is the Synced Curves Concept, where the rocker line, outline and rail curvature are developed in relation to one another rather than treated as independent elements.
By coordinating these curves throughout the hull, Duotone aims to create consistent responses to changes in rider input, improve trim stability and maintain the intended balance between acceleration, speed and manoeuvrability.
What's new in the Falcon_Fin D/LAB 2027?
One of the main updates for 2027 is the slightly forward-shifted fin box position. According to Duotone, this refinement improves acceleration and upwind trim without compromising the board's established balance.
Another important addition is the new 130 L size, developed from the larger 139 L model. It brings the light-wind racing characteristics of the bigger shape into a more compact platform, providing an additional option for riders using large slalom sails.
The expanded size range offers more flexibility when matching board volume and width to rider weight, sail size and expected racing conditions.
Choosing the right size and fin
Smaller Falcon_Fin D/LAB models are primarily aimed at higher-wind racing and smaller slalom sails, where control and reduced wetted surface area become increasingly important. Larger boards offer additional width and planing area, supporting acceleration and efficient racing with bigger rigs in lighter winds.
Footstraps, deck pads and Made to Order production
The Falcon_Fin D/LAB comes with four Duotone Premium Strap 2.0 footstraps and Duotone Pro Pads with a wedge in the rear stance area.
The wedge raises the toe area, creating additional leverage when loading the fin during powered-up racing. The EVA pads provide grip underfoot, while the adjustable footstraps feature measurement markings to help riders reproduce their preferred settings consistently.
Each Falcon_Fin D/LAB is manufactured through Duotone's Made to Order (MTO) programme and receives an individual serial number.
The board is supplied without a fin. Duotone recommends considering the Race D/LAB fin, but the appropriate fin size should be selected separately according to board volume, sail size and sailing conditions.
