Duotone X_Pace was developed for windsurfers who still want to challenge the fastest riders at their local spot, but no longer want the everyday compromise of heavy cambered sails. This freerace model is designed to deliver performance close to a cambered sail, but in a lighter, simpler, and more user-friendly package.
The key strength of the X_Pace is the way it combines strong acceleration, high top speed, and a very stable profile with easier rigging and lighter handling both on the water and during waterstarts.
Race-inspired pre-shaping without cambers
The defining feature of this sail is the pronounced pre-shaping in the luff area. Duotone developed a unique shaping concept that creates an effect similar to a cambered race sail - without using cambers. As a result, the X_Pace produces strong forward drive, very quick acceleration, and that locked-in feeling riders normally expect from cambered designs.
On the water, this means a more performance-oriented feel, better support over the fin, and more control at speed. It is a sail for riders who enjoy dynamic freerace windsurfing and want a setup that stays efficient and composed when fully powered.
SDM or RDM - more flexibility in your quiver
One of the most interesting features of the X_Pace is its ability to work with both SDM and RDM masts. In larger freerace or race sails, RDM masts are usually considered too soft, but here the carefully engineered sail profile compensates for that. In practice, this means you can also use an RDM mast from your smaller wave sails without a noticeable drop in performance.
This gives you more freedom when building your quiver, reducing the number of masts you need, or simply making better use of the gear you already own. Compared to a typical freerace sail focused only on SDM compatibility, the X_Pace offers much more flexibility.
High speed without the heavy handling
Duotone X_Pace generates the power, acceleration, and stability you expect from a fast sail, while remaining much lighter and easier to manage than classic cambered constructions. The narrow mast sleeve and cam-free design make the sail easier to lift out of the water, easier to handle, and faster to rig.
You will notice that especially during longer sessions, in stronger conditions, or whenever convenience matters as much as outright speed. X_Pace does not demand the same effort as a typical race sail, yet it still delivers serious freerace performance.
Control in the upper wind range
The sail has been designed to stay stable when the wind picks up. A strong luff curve, high foil tension, and reinforced construction help the sail keep its shape under load. This gives the X_Pace secure handling, better high-end control, and more confidence when sailing at speed.
A shorter boom and higher clew eyelet position also improve response and reduce swing weight. The result is more direct handling and better behavior during course changes and transitions.
Durability and refined details
Despite its low weight, the X_Pace is not a fragile sail. Materials such as Carbon X-Ply in the high-load zones and the triple X-Ply luff panel are there to reduce stretch and keep the sail profile stable over time. That matters in a performance sail, where every unwanted deformation affects control and efficiency.
Duotone also adds a number of practical solutions that improve setup accuracy and consistency, such as iBUMPER 2.0, VTS Downhaul 2.0, iROCKET 2.0, and VTS Tail markings. These details make it easier to tune the sail correctly and keep it working as intended.
