Performance for small to medium waves and strapless freestyle
The Whip D/LAB has been one of the most popular surfboards in the Duotone range for years. Its shape, developed by Sky Solbach in collaboration with the Duotone Surf Team, is designed for dynamic riding in small to medium waves and progressive strapless freestyle.
The compact geometry and lightweight D/LAB construction provide an extremely fast response to rider input, support tight turns and help generate speed efficiently even when the waves are weak or lack power.
Hip-squash tail, increased rocker and thin rails
The hip-squash tail works together with the increased rocker to enable fast and controlled top turns. The board changes direction quickly and allows precise line control in the pocket.
Thinner rails improve grip and precision in more critical sections of the wave. They allow the rider to engage the rail harder while maintaining control through more aggressive turns.
Speed and drive in weaker waves
The fast, drive-oriented rocker line is combined with a channeled bottom shape. This configuration helps the board accelerate rapidly and maintain momentum even in soft, underpowered waves.
As a result, the Whip D/LAB retains its dynamic character when wave energy is limited, making it easier to link manoeuvres smoothly.
Lightweight Carbon D/LAB construction
The lightweight Carbon construction delivers an exceptionally direct response and high sensitivity to rider input. Reduced weight supports fast transitions between manoeuvres and provides precise board feel during both wave riding and strapless freestyle.
Combined with the compact shape, the D/LAB construction creates a highly reactive board designed for technical and progressive riding.
Innegra Reinforcement
Innegra reinforcement is applied in particularly vulnerable areas, especially the rails, increasing impact resistance without compromising the lightweight and responsive character of the construction.
Innegra also helps reduce high-frequency vibrations, giving the board a smoother and more stable feel in choppy conditions.
RMF Shock Absorber 3.0
Reflex Memory Foam (RMF) combined with the Innegra Shield creates a damping system that is lighter than standard constructions without compromising the overall strength of the board.
RMF has a memory effect, allowing small heel dents to gradually reform over time. This helps reduce permanent deformation and keeps the board surface in better condition for longer.
RMF Shock Absorber 3.0 absorbs impacts and reduces vibration, improving comfort, stability and connection with the board during powerful top turns and the landings of bigger airs.
Dynamic flex and Grab Rails
Optimized bamboo layers combined with composite materials provide dynamic flex and torsional response. This supports agility, powerful handling and quick board reactions across a range of conditions.
Grab Rails make the board easier to hold during freestyle tricks while also improving durability and providing a more comfortable grip during general handling.
MultiBox
The MultiBox system uses Futures-compatible fin boxes with side set screws and no rear tab. High manufacturing tolerances allow the use of high-quality composite and aftermarket Futures fins, while the design makes installation and removal easier even when sand or salt is present.
