Windsurfing board for intermediates

Every windsurfing boards manufacturer has an array of various models designed for different disciplines, windsurfing styles and levels. In this blog entry we pick some recommendations for the gear for intermediate windsurfers available in our shop.
If you have already finished your windsurfing course and got hooked into the sport, it’s time to think about buying your own equipment. So, who can call himself an intermediate windsurfer? At least following skills are necessary:
- going upwind without a daggerboard,
- smooth tacking and jibing in non-planning conditions,
- use of harness.
This is a minimum for safe independent freeride board use. Beachstart ability would come in handy too.
Freeride is the most popular discipline of windsurfing. You can practise it on virtually any spot - be it lake, bay, open sea or even river. The ability to use harness, footstraps and controlling the board while planing enables to have endless fun of this great sport.
So what the board for intermediate rider should look like?
The major parameter is the volume measured in liters. It should match the rider’s bodyweight. If you sail mostly inland (on lakes) and you are still learning to get the board planning, you should add 40-50 liters to your weight. It ensures the board is stable enough and comfortable to sail in non-planning conditions, so you can always come back safely when the wind drops. Kilograms equal liters in this case. So for person weighing 80 kg the board should have around 120-130 liters. If you are already comfortable planning in footstraps and sail mostly spots with stronger winds, you should add 30-40 liters to your mass. The board would be more agile, faster and better cut through chop.
Tabou Bullit
Tabou Bullit is a freeride entry level board. It is designed to sail comfortably in non-planing conditions. All sizes, except for the smallest one, have an extra fin-box in the centre so you can mount a fin-daggerboard necessary for learning basic technique and helpful in low-wind sailing. This board is manufactured in very robust AST technology. It is also inexpensive. Obviously, it’s weight is a bit higher but this will only be noticable when we reach more advanced planning level. This board is also a good choice for family windsurfing.
Fanatic Gecko
Fanatic Gecko is another very easy-going board. It has a wide outline, large surface deck area what makes it very stable. This is definitely the right gear for practising planning rides. Fanatic Gecko is also available in 2 different technology options.
Tabou Rocket
Tabou Rocket is an absolute freeride classic - one of the most successful designs of the past decade. It accelerates planning instantly and stays stable, easy to control, yet very agile. Never gets twitchy and it’s not prone to spin-outs unless you catch weed on your fin. Rocket is available also in WIDE version - wider board would pass the lulls without losing the speed - so it is suitable for gusty lake winds. Planning jibes are pure pleasure on this gear - just push the rail properly once and the rest goes easy-peasy rail runner!

King of the Bay report!
What a weekend it was!!! 🤩 Rewa welcomed us royally! For four days, we enjoyed beautiful sunshine and conditions that allowed us to not only hold the planned races but also to carry out all other activities. The turnout exceeded our wildest expectations. Over 240 competitors registered for the event, and in addition to the participants, crowds of water sports fans flocked to Rewa. Everyone came with one goal: to spread passion and love for windsurfing, kitesurfing, wing foiling, SUP, and pump foiling! I'm still not fully recovered from this magical water sports festival, but the boost of positive energy and motivation we received, both myself and our entire EASY-surfshop team... It's simply indescribable! So much happened during these four days, and the event itself could be divided into two parts: racing and festival-market, which I'd like to briefly present to you.
