What is the Plume?
Plume marks the beginning of a completely new discipline: K-Wing. Developed to make downwind riding more intuitive and accessible, it combines the glide and efficiency of a kite with the comfort, safety, and practicality of a handheld wing. The result is a lightweight, stable tool built specifically for freefly and long downwind runs.
Design and construction
Plume features a minimalistic inflatable design with a small leading edge, no central strut, and a clean C-shape profile. This keeps the wing extremely light, compact, and unobtrusive when freeflying. The reduced structure improves visibility and eliminates the bulk often associated with traditional wings.
The minimal bridle system simplifies setup, improves safety, and limits the risk of tangles, even in offshore conditions. The leading edge can be deflated in the air and re-inflated on the water using a mini pump, adding another layer of autonomy and safety.
On the water
Plume delivers a unique glide sensation with a smooth, forward-oriented pull that does not overload the rider’s arms. Power delivery is progressive and easy to control, allowing long, relaxed sessions without the need for a harness. The K-Wing drifts naturally during downwind runs and reacts instinctively when heading back upwind.
The upwind angle is comparable to a wing, ensuring efficient returns and maximum downwind time. Thanks to its light bar feel and intuitive steering, Plume can be controlled one-handed most of the time, with small movements of the vertical bar acting almost like a joystick.
Materials and sail engineering
Plume benefits from extensive Sail Engineering development to precisely manage loads and maintain the optimal flying shape over time. The inflatable structure uses HITEX high-tenacity polyester, with different weights strategically placed to balance stiffness, durability, and weight. The canopy is made from 55g NANO ripstop polyester, featuring a NANO coating and Plasma treatment for improved rigidity, tear resistance, and long-term durability, even in harsh marine environments.
K-Wing vs Wing vs Pocket Wing...
Plume vs Wing
A wing excels in low-end power and pumping efficiency, allowing take-offs on smaller boards. Plume can be pumped for take-off more efficiently than a kite, but less than a wing, making its low-end slightly more technical.
Where Plume stands out is in freefly and downwind riding: it feels significantly lighter, less bulky, and far less intrusive when flagged. It offers a wide wind range, excellent depower, and fast transitions, making it especially appealing for strong winds, waves, and riders who value simplicity and visibility. Take-offs typically require a midlength-type board.
Plume vs Pocket Wing
Pocket wings remain the ultimate high-performance tool for experienced downwind riders seeking maximum efficiency and ultra-compact packability.
Plume, however, offers a more intuitive and forgiving experience. It delivers smoother power, better depower, fewer bridles to manage, and a lightweight inflatable structure that increases safety and ease of use. While it does not pack as small as a pocket wing, it strikes a unique balance between compactness, comfort, and accessibility, often eliminating the need for a harness altogether.
