Rusty Preisendorfer shaped his first 4-fin Moby and immediately loved how it rode. He tested it in surf up to around 5 feet and was impressed with its performance. The board quickly gained popularity, not just with Rusty’s close friends but also with their sons—some of the best surfers on the LJ reefs. These younger riders tried the boards, refused to give them back, and ended up ordering duplicates. Interestingly, they didn’t opt for smaller or leaner versions—they rode the same boards, even on bigger days.

Thanks to its size, the Moby is an excellent choice for beginners and a great alternative to a traditional longboard. However, its versatility makes it suitable for surfers of all skill levels and in a wide range of conditions. The relaxed entry rocker enhances paddling ease, while the slightly above-average exit rocker improves turning and helps the board fit more naturally into the wave. Its fuller outline provides ample surface area for glide and speed, while the rails—full yet angular with a lower apex—offer a perfect balance of lift and control.

If I had to pick just one board to ride, the Moby would be it. Pure fun.
